My name is Joel Barker, and I am running for Democratic Party of Oregon State Central Committee (SCC)

I am asking for the vote of my fellow Multnomah Democratic Party PCPs.

When the pandemic hit, the volunteers of MultDems were ramping up the critical work of the 2020 election. We had to win, so we had to swerve. Every committee, every volunteer, stepped up with commitment and creativity.

Lover of dogs big and small, runner, writer, and pretty fun to have a cup of coffee with. Curiously rather bad at Scrabble.

As the Communications Officer, my job was to support and help bring to life these ideas. We did. Video candidate forums. Contact-less voter registration. Over 90,000 slate cards dropped for neighbors.

We have learned how important being open and accountable is to building coalition. We have continued to expand our use of the digital tools that continue to define our political world.

We came together and won big.

That’s what want to do as a delegate to SCC; help us to get electoral and legislative wins to protect and empower our communities.

My progressive beliefs light my way. I want us to work together for a more equitable, safer, and peaceful society.

I believe that for us to realize the vision of the Green New Deal, for us to erase racism, for us to provide healthcare for all, we need to energize voters across the state.

I grew up in rural Oregon. I have made my home in Portland for 20 years. I want to be a part of a united, progressive Oregon. We can do this work in the State Central Committee! It is where Democrats from around the state gather to build together. I want to be a part of that hard work.

PCPs, please join us on Saturday January 23rd for this important election. I ask for your vote to give me the opportunity to serve on State Central Committee.

Endorsements

I am so honored to have been endorsed by Jamie MacLeod-Skinner and Laurie Wimmer.

It is my honor to endorse Joel Barker for DPO State Central Committee because of his dedication to bridging divides, ensuring accountability with integrity, and improving our ability to win elections with good communications and digital practices. His hopefulness is compelling and necessary in these times, too: he sees signs of promise in both our party and country these days — key to forging a better tomorrow.
